Poppy’s is growing! We’re delighted to introduce Susan El-Habash as the newest member of our team, working alongside our existing funeral directors Amy, Hannah and Victoria.

Find out how personal experience of our care led Susan to apply for a job with Poppy’s, what she’s most looking forward to about the role, and what she’d like to happen at her own funeral.

I first came across Poppy’s in 2020 when they looked after my mum after she died. My best friend recommended them to me, and from the moment I spoke to them, I knew I had chosen the right place.

Since the day I appointed Poppy’s to take care of my mum, Maria, I knew I would never forget them. I was impressed by the care and respect everyone had for my mum, and the time Victoria and the team took with me to organise her final goodbye. When the opportunity arose to become a funeral director, I jumped at the chance.

It is an honour to support someone with planning a final goodbye. I’m looking forward to supporting clients in a caring, professional, and empathetic way, as well as learning all aspects of this new and exciting role.

I first started working as a hairdresser at 18 years old. Over the years I worked up to being a director stylist and salon manager. When I needed a career change, I started working as an advice and guidance officer in further education. By the time I left further education after 18 years, I had progressed into a student recruitment officer role, supporting young people and adults.

The Poppy’s team are the most supportive, kind, and knowledgeable team I have met. Nothing is too much for anyone. The time and care they have towards each other is something I have not witnessed before. It feels like one big family, there to support each other through the ups and downs of funeral planning.

Since starting here, I’ve noticed how complimentary everyone I talk to is about Poppy’s. Whether it is a potential client or a celebrant who has worked with Poppy’s, it is always positive feedback.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my three cats —Toni, Scotty, and Truffle. I also love to go to the theatre and to find new and exciting places to eat. I like travelling and have been to some amazing places such as Thailand, the Peloponnese in Greece, and Cape Town in South Africa.

Personally, I would love a natural burial in a forest, with a beautiful willow coffin or a banana leaf coffin. I’d like to be wrapped up in a Palestinian flag and a Madeiran flag, as that is my heritage. I would have a simple service, followed by everyone going to the nearest Lebanese restaurant to enjoy good food and drink and share happy memories.
